Sleep Number is a vertically integrated mattress company, founded in Minneapolis in 1987, that designs, manufactures and sells its own adjustable-air Sleep Number beds directly through its own retail stores rather than as a multi-brand dealer. The chain sits in the premium tier of the mattress category, competing on sleep-tracking and firmness-adjustment technology rather than price. Sleep Country Canada completed its acquisition of Sleep Number in 2026; stores continue normal operations under the Sleep Number name.
